Choosing a level is simple. Low does light optimisation for when quality matters more than size. Medium is the everyday choice, a strong size reduction you generally can't see. High and Extreme squeeze the file smaller for strict upload limits, accepting slightly softer images in return. Or skip the levels entirely and use Target file size: type the exact size you need and the tool finds the best quality that fits. For text-only PDFs that can't reach a very small target without rasterizing the text, it gets as close as possible and tells you the closest size, it never blurs your text to hit a number. After processing you'll see the original size, the new size, and the exact percentage saved.
