The conversion is deliberately reductive. Excel stores formatting, formulas, charts, data types, and multiple sheets; CSV keeps only the raw cell values. A couple of practical points: a CSV is a single table, so multi-sheet workbooks convert one sheet at a time, and values containing commas are quoted automatically so they import correctly. Formula results are preserved as values, but the formulas themselves are not.
